The workshop is intended to provide the beginner with a good
 +
understanding of the ecology of ditch invertebrates and sufficient
 +
knowledge to allow some key groups to be surveyed. The workshop
 +
will first review the importance of ditches as habitat for invertebrates
 +
within The Broads – including species such as the Norfolk hawker
 +
dragonfly - and then look in detail at the standard survey and
 +
assessment methods for ditch habitats. The second part of the
 +
session will then cover the identification of snails using a video
 +
camera to look at a range of species and the important characters
 +
used for identification; weather permitting some local ditches at
 +
Thorpe marshes will also be surveyed.
