==12th April to the 24th April,"Art Of Norwich 11"==

The Resilience Plan is what is called an energy descent action plan in the wider Transition community, but which we call resilience plan because it's not just about energy descent (i.e. peak oil). The group has been meeting for several months, so if you haven't been to previous meetings and want to get involved it would be good to have a meeting with one of the "regulars" beforehand, so that we can bring you up to speed. How do you maintain inner stability in times of external change? What does it take to switch from consumer based values to more sustainable ones? What does it take to keep motivated? How do you handle it when the 'why bother?' surfaces? These are the sorts of questions we will be considering together - sharing and learning form each other. A facilitative listening space, rather than a teaching session - all input welcome. Contact: Naomi at trust@mangreen.co.uk

Workshop led by facilitator in Compassionate (Non-Violent) Communications, Des Moss. Experiential, participatory activities focusing on difficulties/conflicts that may arise in groups/meetings, especially when we feel strongly. This introduction is for anyone who wants what they say to be heard and understood more fully. It will focus on ways that are most likely to connect us with other people, and what may lead others to disengage from us. We explore the power of active listening and empathy to connect us with others, and the importance of making clear requests.  Open to anyone who is interested. The workshop is offered in a not-for-profit spirit. Contributions requested of £5 - £10. Bring and share lunch. Drinks provided.

Nuclear Power is not the Answer to Climate Chaos
+
Dr. Shirin Zubair (Visiting Fellow in DEV and currently based with the
 +
Literacy and Development Group) will be introducing and answering
 +
questions about a documentary she made in Pakistan (see below) on Tuesday
 +
All are welcome to attend to watch the documentary and hear firsthand
 +
about this women's rights movement in Pakistan,
 +
Based on the true story of a feminist professor and a revolutionary artist
 +
who launch a women's rights movement in Southern Punjab, Pakistan€a hotbed
 +
of religious extremism and terrorism with the highest crime rate of
 +
violence against women . Joining hands for social change , they challenge
 +
the constructs of a patriarchal Muslim society through emancipatory
 +
education  in the repressive society of today's Pakistan. The story takes
 +
us deep into the heart of contemporary Pakistani society and unfolds the
 +
anarchy and talibanization within the educational institutions; laying
 +
bare the paradoxes , hypocrisy and contradictions of a dying society. As
 +
the progressive and humanistic elements in education are deemed immoral,
 +
the consciousness-raising organization ReWAC ( Revolutionary Women Action
 +
Committee) is crushed in the name of religion and morality. The
 +
protagonists are penalized -they both lose their positions at the
 +
university, thus a message is sent out to other women and activists who
 +
may dare to strive for social change.

A surgeon's testimony of life, death and politics in Palestine
 +
Dr Ghassan Abu Sitta
 +
Reconstructive surgeon
 +

 +
Dr Ghassan Abu Sitta went with a UK medical team on behalf of Medical Aid
 +
for Palestinians to the Gaza Strip at the height of the Israeli attack in
 +
winter 2009. He will discuss the weaponry used for the bombardment, and
 +
the devastating effect on the human population of the conventional and
 +
chemical warfare. He will also discuss the political aftermath of the
 +
attack, from Richard Falk's visit to the Goldstone Report and the recently
 +
imposed infiltrator's law. Dr Ghassan concludes with some thoughts on the
 +
future. All are welcome.

==[[Image:betteractivethanradioactive.jpg|100px]]Camp and Demo at Sizewell A and B nuclear power stations, April 23-26, Suffolk, on the beach==
 +
The UK government is now talking about massive expansion of nuclear
 +
power in the UK.  Sizewell is planned to be one of the first built.
 +
The safety and disposal of radioactive waste has still not been solved
 +
and even without a nuclear accident radioactivity released from nuclear
 +
power stations causes cancers and birth defects. Economically, building
 +
new reactors makes no sense and will divert attention and investment
 +
from finding real solutions to climate chaos and achieving a secure
 +
energy supply.  Campaigning against new-build is stepping up. If we
 +
want to stop the next generation of nuclear power – NOW is the time
 +
to act. Come join us for a weekend.
 +

*Getting There
 +

 +
Sizewell is on the Suffolk Coast about 8 miles from the A12 about 100 miles from Central London. The nearest train station is Saxmundham which is 7 miles from Sizewell. There will be people cycling from Saxmundham with a nuclear white elephant on Friday so please get in contact if you would like to join them.  The postcode for the power station is IP16 4UE if you want to look it up on the Internet.
 +

 +
*What You Will Need
 +

 +
Food will be available at the camp (suggested donation £5 per day for 3 meals a day) so just bring the other stuff that you need – tent, waterproof clothing, ideas etc.  It may be windy and the soil under tents maybe sandy. Disabled access is possible; contact us if you would like to know more on accessibility.
 +

 +
*About The Camp
 +

 +
We want as many people as possible to feel comfortable at the camp, so please, if you have to bring alcohol, be responsible, keep it to a real minimum and no loud music please – successful campaigns need support from the people who live locally! The camp will not be run for you but by you so please be prepared to help out with washing-up etc.  It would be great to have some idea on numbers so that we can plan food etc, so if you can, please let us know if you are coming.
