- | + | Encounter Point (Israel/Palestine/North America/Brazil) is an 85-minute feature documentary film that follows a former Israeli settler,
- | + | a Palestinian ex-prisoner, a bereaved Israeli mother and a wounded Palestinian bereaved brother who
+ | risk their lives and public standing to promote a nonviolent end to the conflict. Their journeys lead
+ | them to the unlikeliest places to confront hatred within their communities. The film explores what
+ | drives them and thousands of other like-minded civilians to overcome anger and grief to work for
+ | grassroots solutions. It is a film about the everyday leaders in our midst.
+ | The film will be followed by a discussion.

+ | Joe Glenton is the soldier who has refused to return to Afghanistan. The charge against Joe has been reduced from desertion to absence without leave which carries a maximum sentence of 2 years.
- | Protest To Defend Joe Glenton | + | He wrote to the Prime Minister stating:- |
+ | |||
+ | "It is my primary concern that the courage and tenacity of my fellow soldiers has become a tool of American foreign policy. The war in Afghanistan is not reducing the terrorist risk – far from improving Afghan lives, it is bringing death and devastation to their country. Britain has no business there. I do not believe that our cause in Afghanistan is just or right. I implore you, sir, to bring our troops home."
+ | |||
+ | Norwich Stop the War Coalition is planning to send a delegation to Colchester to support Joe. If you are interested please contact Frank on 01493 664499

+ | ==Wednesday 10th March: Film: Outside the Law: Stories from Guantánamo, 7pm, The Curve (downstairs in The Forum)==
+ | A new documentary telling the story of Guantánamo: torture, extraordinary rendition and secret prisons. Examining how the Bush administration turned its back on domestic and international law, rounding up prisoners in Afghanistan and Pakistan without adequate screening and often for large bounty payments. Focusing on the stories of three prisoners, Shaker Aamer, Binyam Mohamed and Omar Deghayes, 'Outside the Law: Stories from Guantánamo' is powerful rebuke to the myth that Guantánamo holds “the worst of the worst”.

+ | ==Friday 12th Memorial for Ilse Bell. 2pm St Thomas Church, Earlham Road==
+ | Ilse Bell 22/2/19224 – 31/1/2010
+ | |||
+ | Peace activist, friend, great- grandmother Ilse Bell passed away peacefully on Sunday, 31 Jan, 9.35 pm surrounded by family and friends, there being little distinction between the two. Those who knew her will be left with an Ilse shaped hole, but also with the inspiration of a woman who endured losses such as nobody should ever have to deal with, and who lived out the ‘never again’ testimony by refusing bitterness, by faithful, determined and above compassionate activism for peace and justice.
+ | |||
+ | Ilse grew up in Breslau, Germany, which is now Wroclaw in Poland. She came to England as a Kindertransportee in 1938, when child protection meant putting your child on a train and praying for their survival, when your own was unlikely. Ilse's parents perished in the holocaust.
+ | Ilse led a very active life until age and frailty got the better of her.
+ | Among other things, Ilse was a teacher, active in CND, Mothers for Peace, Mothers’ Union, Christian Aid,
+ | her own family and Search for meaning, adventures in religion
+ | Above all, Ilse will be remembered for the loving and generous spirit she showed everyone, because of everything.
