Using the arts as a model for social change The Freedom Theatre is developing the only professional venue for theatre and arts in the north of the Occupied Palestinian Territories. The aim of this project is to empower and give voice to the children of Jenin Refugee Camp through a unique programme of workshops and activities in theatre, supporting arts and multi-media.
 +

 +
In 2008 a group of children and youth from the Jenin Refugee camp embarked on an artistic journey, exploring the concept of freedom and exposing the oppression which affects Palestinians today – in their homes, their community and as a nation. The results formed the first photography exhibition held by The Freedom Theatre: ‘Freedom and Oppression’

A selection of photographs from the exhibition will be on display at the Playhouse Bar in Norwich from 4th to 26th May 2009.

==A day for HOPE not hate in Great Yarmouth, Saturday May 9th, 10.00 am - 2.00 pm, Market Gates/Market Place==
 +

 +
We are inviting MPs, MEPs, councillors and members of ALL mainstream political parties, members of Church and other religious groups, community organisations, trade unions and members of the public to sink their differences for just FOUR HOURS on May 9th and to join together in a show of unity aimed at raising awareness of the true nature of the BNP and of increasing voter turnout - the best chance we have of defeating the British National Party.

 +
Our activity will take the form of a mass moving canvass and literature distribution session, starting in the Market Place, moving down Regent Road to the Britannia Pier, then reversing the route. The idea is to engage directly with members of the public. The local Press and TV news will be on hand to interview participants.
 +
 +
Non-party political literature devised by HOPE not hate will be made freely available to all participants courtesy of Great Yarmouth and District Trades Council. We regret that we will be unable to cover any personal expenses incurred.
 +
 +
We strongly urge you to get involved in the campaign to halt the BNP by donating FOUR HOURS of your free time on May 9th - four hours to stop the BNP shaming Norfolk and the East of England!

How do you become a film composer? What skills do you need?
 +
 +
This free event is an excellent opportunity for everyone.  All welcome!
 +
 +
Andrew Pearce began his musical life at the age of nine and began composing pieces for his local youth orchestra at the age of 17.  He gained a BA Hons in Music at the University of East Anglia and in 1996, won the PRS Sir Arthur Bliss Scholarship to study MMus Composition for Screen at the Royal College of Music London, under award winning film and TV composers George Fenton and Joseph Horovitz.  In 2003 he composed his first feature film, 30 Miles and since then he has gone on to compose additional music for such films as Modigliani (2004), CashBack (2005) and Dot.Com (2006).  His most recent film was Dark Corners, an independent Hollywood Film released in 2006 staring Thora Birch and Toby Stephens. In addition to his film scoring commitments, Andrew has also composed a symphony in four movements titled ‘Cinema Symphony’.  More information can be found at http://www.andrew-pearce.com.
 +
 +
Andrew will be discussing his work scoring for film along with examining what process and skills, such as orchestration and reading music to picture, are required of a composer working on films today.  He will also discuss the importance of short films for emerging composers interested in a music career in the film industry shedding light on what it takes to make it into the world of music and films.
