| With US bases in the Lakenheath complex housing the only nuclear weapons in England, East Anglia on has been dubbed ‘America’s unsinkable aircraft carrier’. CND has been as active in Norfolk as anywhere.To highlight 50 years of working for a nuclear-free world, Norwich CND are putting on an Exhibition at Friends Meeting House, Goat Lane from March 20th for one month. The Exhibition will display archive and current materials used in campaigning, and will invite people to consider the meaning of security and means to achieving it.

| ==Vigil for Gaza, Sat March 28th, 11.30am-1.30pm, opposite the Forum ==
| |||
| Gaza may be out of the headlines but the legacy of operation Cast lead is still
| all too real. | ||
| Once again there is to be a vigil this Saturday 11.30 to 1.30pm outside the Forum
| to keep Gaza/Palestine in the mind of the public and the lack of media coverage
| only strengthens the importance of this and the need for it to be supported as
| widely as possible. | ||
| Speeches we hope will begin at midday and although it is predicted to be windy we
| still hope to have stalls with leaflets and petitions and we hope also of course
| that there will be teas and biscuits.
| |||
| This is all about united action and staying together for the sake of
| Gaza/Palestine and for the sake of those involved and for those who may be
| encouraged by this to become involved or give support.
| I have heard recently from someone from Jerusalem who says how much he and his
| friends value what we have been trying to do here, if nothing else if we can
| manage to give a voice here for Palestine I think that this is worthwhile.

| On Saturday 28th March – ASSEMBLE 11.00AM Victoria Embankment, London WC2R 2PP. March moves off from noon for carnival with speakers and entertainment in Hyde Park from 2pm
| Seize This Moment to Put People First
| |||
| WILPF women have long been critical of current world economic policies and institutions. Now the global financial and economic system is in crisis because of blind faith in the free market system, and inadequate public control, regulation, and accountability of wild financial speculation and greed.
| |||
| Even before this crisis, people across the world, and women in particular, were already suffering from the effects of rising food prices, inadequate and privatised essential services, the threat of climate chaos, and conflicts fuelled by the demand of the rich world for resources.
| |||
| Gender inequality means that women’s domestic burden is increased in times of crisis as labour and care previously provided by the state is cut, which forces women to take on additional unpaid responsibilities and limits their time or opportunity to make a contribution to civil society ideas and action.
| |||
| At this critical time WILPF has joined a platform of developmental NGOs, Trade Unions and climate campaigners to demand that the governments of the UK and other rich countries change the systems to make the world economy work for all people and for the planet.
| We must not let ourselves be frozen into impotence by in the economic jargon in the media. Instead we can join the mass demonstration on March 28th in advance of the G20 meeting of rich world leaders in London, or help to organise local events to raise awareness, or write a letter to Gordon Brown.
| Here are the calls to Put People First
| |||
| Put People First: Ensure democratic governance of the economy
| *1.Compel tax havens to abide by strict international rules.
| *2.Insist on fundamental governance reform of the World Bank and IMF.
| *3.Make all financial institutions, financial products and multinationals transparent and publicly accountable, with the UN playing a key role.
| |||
| Justice: End global poverty and inequality
| *4.Deliver 0.7% of national income as aid by 2013, deliver it more effectively, and push for the cancellation of all illegitimate and unpayable developing country debts.
| *5.Ensure that poorer states are allowed to take responsibility for managing their economies, including controlling cross-border capital flows.
| *6.Stop pushing developing countries to liberalise and deregulate their economies, and do not attempt to rush through a completion of the Doha trade round, a deal which developing countries have rejected several times.
| |||
| Climate: Build a Green Economy
| *7.In addition to the green new deal (recommendation 4) introduce robust regulatory requirements and financial incentives needed to deliver a green economy.
| *8.Push for a deal at the Copenhagen talks to agree substantial verifiable cuts in greenhouse gases which will limit temperature increases to well below 2 degree Celsius
| *9.Commit to substantial new resource transfer from north to south additional to Overseas Development Aid to support adaptation and sustainable development in poor countries.
| |||
| Already more than one hundred organisations have joined the Put People First platform. You can find out more at http://www.bond.org.uk/pages/economic-crisis-campaign.html or http://www.putpeoplefirst.org.uk.
