==Wired Events: Wed, Feb 4th, 'Archive Film Show', 2:30pm-4:30pm, UEA, Arts 02.02==
 +
 +
Amateur film-making is not just about filming the family holiday. As we’ve proved so far with our previous IAC (Institute of Amateur Cinematographers) archive film shows, so many amateur film-makers can give the professional a run for their money.
 +
 +
This unique film show will give a fascinating insight into the artistic, progressive and ambitious world of the keen amateur film-maker – an area which cries out for academic study.
 +
 +
Material will include a Swinging 60s surprise role reversal where a young man finds himself emasculated by an older woman, animation drawn on film, a filmic joke at the expense of the audience, tender treatments of sensitive subjects such as cerebral palsy and technically ambitious in-camera special effects.

==Film show 'De nadie/Nobody', Thursday 5th February, 7 pm, UEA  Arts 01.02==
 +
2006 Sundance winning documentary by Tim Dirdamal, Mexico, 2005.
 +
 +
A powerful film that puts a face on immigration & makes us view it in a
 +
different way.
 +
The impoverished Central Americans who leave their countries in hopes of a
 +
better life in the United States have a rough road ahead of them. 'De Nadie'
 +
shows how, during their perilous 2,500-mile journey through Mexico, they
 +
put their money, dignity, health and life on the line. While the
 +
anti-immigration movement in the United States focuses on preventing
 +
Mexican migration to America, limited attention is paid to the thousands
 +
of Central Americans who first have to cross Mexico before attempting to
 +
enter the United States. This documentary seeks to fill that gap.
 +
 +
The film is in Spanish with English subtitles & will be followed by
 +
discussion.
 +
Entrance is free & all are welcome

==Leafletting Protest outside Somerfield's Supermarket, Sat. Feb. 7th 20009, 9am onwards, Earlham Road==
 +
 +
February 7th is a national day of protest at shops and supermarkets which
 +
sell Israeli products and goods labelled "West Bank". The latter are NOT
 +
Palestinian goods but are produced by businesses run by illegal Israeli
 +
settlers who have stolen Palestinian land in the West Bank. We are
 +
organising a leafletting protest outside Somerfield's Supermarket in the
 +
Earlham Shopping Centre on Earlham Road from 9am onwards. We have chosen
 +
this supermarket because there has been a market increase in the number of
 +
Israeli & 'West Bank' products on its shelves and because it is within
 +
easy range of the university and is in an area where many students live.
 +
We need your support and help. Please let me know if you ca support us.
 +
(We have checked matters with the police and there is no reason why there
 +
should be any problem carrying out this action.)

BRAZIL'S LANDLESS MOVEMENT: INTERACTIVE FILM & PRESENTATION
 +
Organised by the schools of Development Studies, Film & TV Studies, &
 +
Language, Linguistics & Translation Studies
 +
*Guest speaker: Nina Simões
 +
 +
*"Rehearsing Reality"
 +
This is an interactive non-linear work based on the
 +
relationship between the Landless Movement in Brazil and the
 +
Theatre of the Oppressed.
 +
Brazil's Landless Movement (MST) - described by Noam Chomsky
 +
as 'the most successful grassroots movement in the world' -
 +
has adopted Theatre of the Oppressed techniques, developed by
 +
Brazilian theatre director Augusto Boal, which teach people
 +
how to transform themselves from spectators into
 +
'spect-actors' by actively taking control of their lives.
 +
As the documentary Rehearsing Reality was edited with the
 +
Korsakow System (software deigned to create interactive
 +
films), members of the audience will be invited to interact
