It would be a great help if you could spread the word about the '''Greenpeace Romania petition against new nuclear reactors''': http://www.greenpeace.org/romania/campaigns/nucleare/signthepetition It can be signed by anyone in the world, and we need a lot of signatures to put pressure on the government and companies, so they will quit the idea of investing in nuclear energy in Romania :) Thank you all! I'm sending this email to a few people in Norwich who might be able to get involved in a zero carbon concert in Norwich on either Sat 27th or Sun 28th November (just before the next UN climate summit begins in Mexico) to prove to the negotiators that a zero carbon world is possible. | I'm sending this email to a few people in Norwich who might be able to get involved in a zero carbon concert in Norwich on either Sat 27th or Sun 28th November (just before the next UN climate summit begins in Mexico) to prove to the negotiators that a zero carbon world is possible.
The first step is to organise a meeting of people who want to join in. Please can you reply with the dates you are able to manage in August if you are interested in helping, and I will then pick a date when most of us can make it Thanks, Chris, 07801 250982, www.zerocarbonconcert.org | The first step is to organise a meeting of people who want to join in. + | ==Government must guarantee that Councils can consider biofuel impacts on climate, people and environment==
+ | from mark.crutchley@googlemail.com
+ | Dear Friends, | ||
+ | On 10th August, a Public Enquiry about Bristol City Council's decision to reject an application for a 50 MW palm oil power station will start, following an appeal by the company.
+ | The main ground for the Council's decision to reject the application was their concern about the wider impacts of the biofuels which the company intends to burn - largely palm oil from South-east Asia. However, the Planning Inspector has so far stated that the Council's main reasons for originally rejecting the application will not even be heard! Instead, it is claimed that wier impacts of biofuels are not planning matters - because of one sentence in an outdated technical annex to planning guidance. Weymouth & Portland Council previously cited that same document and sentence when approving another palm oil power station by W4B.
+ | The new Government has promised to devolve more planning powers to local governments and to strengthen local democracy; Bristol City Council's decision against W4B is a test case for this commitment.
+ | Please write to the Government today and ask them to confirm that it is not their intention to stop Councils from considering climate change and wider environmental and social impacts in such planning applications. To take part in the alert, please go to www.biofuelwatch.org.uk/w4bjul2010.php
+ | Please let your friends and family know about this email action. Many thanks.
+ | Best regards, | ||
