=Late additions not in mailing= ==Sat 26th November, Greenhouse: The African Climate Connection== To Mark the forthcoming United Nations climate talks to be held in Durban South Africa, an African themed photographic exhibition will take place at the Greenhouse Environment Centre, Bethel Street, Norwich. On Saturday 26 November at 11:00am, Norwich South MP Simon Wright will declare the exhibition open. Norwich North MP Chloe Smith has also bee invited and we are waiting for her to confirm. The event aims to help make the connection between our local community and the talks in Africa and is one of a number taking place throughout the country. Following the opening, Mr. Wright will meet constituents and local campaigners from Stop Climate Chaos Coalition member organisations as well as key individuals from the City. Numbers at the Greenhouse are limited, so if you or fellow councillors would like to attend and express their climate concerns to Mr. Wright, please contact me. email: east@stopclimatechaos.org tel: 07530 533747 To compliment the Greenhouse event there will be an 'impromptu' gathering of African drummers and dancers and banner waving individuals somewhere in the city centre. A good number of people are expected and we will be seeking local media coverage. Details TBA. Again, please contact me for more info. You may also be interested in an online debate with Chris Huhne (Energy and Climate Minister) to be held on 1st December just before he heads off to Durban. You'll be able to submit questions ahead of, and during, the debate which will be shown live on the African Climate Connection home page: http://www.the-african-climate.org The Stop Climate Chaos Coalition spans over 100 organisations from environment and development charities to unions, faith, community and women's organisations. The combined supporter base is over 11 million people. Occupy Norwich is inspired by Occupy Wall Street, a leaderless resistance movement with people of many colors, genders, abilities and political persuasions. The one thing we all have in common is that We Are The 99% that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1%. The US action has inspired similar peaceful actions in the UK. We are totally supportive of other Occupy initiatives, and feel there is value in responses on a regional level too, not everyone can get to London (Occupy the London Stock Exchange), not everyone can drop everything and leave, not everyone can afford to travel far etc etc. So that's why we started this non-violent protest in Norwich! WHERE: The Haymarket in Norwich (NR2 1QD) WHEN: From Saturday October 15th until - who knows? This is an ongoing organic movement which we hope may continue until December. WHAT TO BRING: Yourselves, friends, family! We need people! You may also like to bring placards, food & drink, and warm clothing if you intend to stay longer term/overnight. Please note that there are updated Need/want lists which appear on the Facebook group and the online Forum. Together we talk and plan, make friends, reconnect with our local community, share our grievances, discuss solutions, and make it OURS! Please also connect with us if you're planning something in your town/city. We will gladly befriend and Twitter follow all of our friends :-) Occupy EVERYWHERE! Please remember that this is a totally non-violent protest, and we expect everyone to behave within the law. Thank you. Few of us make them explicit. But most of us fall ill when we, rightly or wrongly, feel that our lives fall short of our ideals, and this discrepancy is a major source of depression. Some of the ideals and assumptions that have frequently proven depressogenic include: “My value as a person depends greatly on what others think of me.” “Only people who are in some way outstanding are worthwhile.” “If a person is not a success, then his life is meaningless.” We will explore how one can intelligently question and assess these ethical assumptions which shape our lives. Fri 11 Nov 20.00 Marzano’s, Forum ''''''Philosophy of money and consumption.''' Davide Rizza & David Rojo Arjona'''We often accept economic practices as a given. Yet we have a financial market in which intangible ‘goods’ like public debt can be bought and sold. We have transactions that allow people to make profits by merely purchasing and reselling currencies, i.e. independently of the production or ownership of any valuable goods. These aspects of the economy have an obvious impact on our life: globally, they shape governmental policies; locally they mould the values that we attach to money and wealth. We will provoke you to think about these problems, from both a philosophical and an economic standpoint. Wed 16 Nov 12.30 Take 5 Cafe, 17 Tombland NR3 1HF '''What is freedom? Rupert Read'''We think of freedom as perhaps the most valuable thing there is, but what IS freedom? Is it one thing, or many? Is it even a coherent idea? Let’s find out together! ==Beyond Pond Dipping,5th November, 10-4 with Norfolk Wildlife Trust== Saturday 5 November, 10am - 4pm NWT Thorpe Marshes (Booking Essential, please call 01603 598333) The workshop is intended to provide the beginner with a good understanding of the ecology of ditch invertebrates and sufficient knowledge to allow some key groups to be surveyed.
