Piers joined the school in 1972 and is internationally recognised as one of the founders of the field of political ecology. The lecture will be introduced by Piers, and will be given by Melissa Leach, on Green Wins or Green Grabs: Contested Pathways to Sustainability in Africa. Melissa is professorial fellow at the Institute of Development Studies, Sussex, and has written widely on the environment in Africa. The lecture will present compelling stories from the forests of West Africa. The public lecture will be held at the Thomas Paine Lecture Theatre, University of East Anglia from 5.00pm - 6.30pm and will be followed by a free drinks reception. We warmly invite you to attend.
