=Late additions= ==Peace News Log « How to Fill In Your Census Form Without Lockheed Martin Profiting== http://www.peacenewslog.info/2011/03/how-to-fill-in-your-census-form-without-lockheed-martin-profiting-short-version/ US Arms Manufacturer Lockheed Martin has the contracy for the 2011 UK Census in March this year. The US arms manufacturer Lockheed Martin makes Trident nuclear missiles, cluster bombs and fighter jets and is involved in data processing for the CIA and FBI. It has provided private contract interrogators for the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq and Guantanamo Bay. Lockheed Martin has the UK Government contract to process the data for the 2011 census in March. (Observer, 20 February 2011) WHAT YOU CAN DO Lockheed Martin is in it for the money. A principled stance by you to boycott the census will not hurt them, could provide the British Government with a £1000 fine of your money and will make life harder for local authorities. Don’t let them make a profit from your census return but do help to provide the data your council needs for its Government grants. If you don’t send in your form, Lockheed Martin will still get its money and just make a higher profit for less work. This year, for the first time, you can make your census return on line. Do not do this, for an on-line return is the cheapest and easiest option for Lockheed Martin to process. PRIORITIES, to make processing your census form VERY EXPENSIVE for Lockheed Martin: 1. Obliterate completely ALL bar codes, serial numbers and other codes on your form. Don’t miss any! 2. Obstruct fast and cheap computer scanning of your form so that its information must be keyed in by hand, which is a vastly more expensive process. Do this by e.g. writing text upside down (i.e. turn the form upside down when you write); making corrections to written text and ticked boxes by crossing it all out, writing the information elsewhere on the page and then use arrows to point to the places where the information was meant to be. The computer cannot read upside down text and corrected entries of this type. His subject will be : The Twin Challenges facing the world: Energy Security and Climate Change - a hard choice ahead. The talk starts at 1pm and lasts about 45 minutes, followed by questions and discussion. The meeting closes at 2pm. Admission is Free. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch any time from 12.15 onwards. A £2 donation is invited for a hot drink and biscuits. If you want to do something different for lunch, these UNA-sponsored talks are well worth hearing and will update you on a range of subjects from experts in the field of politics and international development. ==Art on the Railings== The city’s open air art market is back this weekend, featuring a host of local talent. Organised by the Norwich City Council events team, the Art on the Railings series invites local artists to display and sell their works, using the dramatic backdrop of St Peter Mancroft church in the city centre to show off their wares. Open for business each day from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 of March, the event helps to promote culture in the city, as well as celebrating Norwich’s history of art. It’s open to all, and don’t worry if you can’t make this one as the series continues on the last weekend of each month until November. You can find out more about art on the railings in the events section of our website www.norwich.gov.uk ==[[Image:OWC.gif|100px]]The ‘ONE WORLD COLUMN’ starts to return to print:== Triangle magazine has linked up with six local writers and campaigners who have launched a blog, the ‘One World Column’, to comment on news from a global perspective. The blog was launched recently at the East of England Production Innovation Centre in Norwich. Forty guests attended from independent media, social enterprises, environment organisations, trades unions, charities and political campaigns. The One World Column was for six years a weekly feature in the Eastern Daily Press, but also published on its own website. Its concerns include international development, poverty, globalisation, peacemaking, human rights, social justice, animals, and the environment. The writers decided to develop a partnership with organisations with similar interests (including SCOOP). The blog will now become an online magazine, forum and news network for the region’s progressive organisations, and will incorporate the SCOOP calendar: http://oneworldcolumn.blogspot.com/p/calendar.html. And Triangle have agreed to publish blog extracts in print, on a regular basis. OWC blogger Charlotte Du Cann, said: ‘We want to establish a relationship with like-minded writers, NGOs, artists and others throughout the region, to develop the One World Column as an asset for us all. The filmshow includes wonderful archive footage of Norwich industries and crafts courtesy of the East Anglian Film Archive. King Street Community Voices recorded a commentary for one of the films, ‘Car Trip Through Norwich’ which takes a tour round the city streets in 1950. Interviewees were recorded describing the route, how buildings and streets have changed, plus their personal recollections of Norwich as it was 60 years ago. This exhibition was displayed at the Forum in 2009 as part of the annual Peace Camp and there is now another chance to see it at The Hostry during March. This exhibition celebrates a variety of Israeli groups that strive to make a difference, working with Palestinian groups towards an Israel that respects all of its citizens and treats them equally, an Israel that lives at peace with its neighbours and abides by international law. These groups do not figure in any official Israeli celebrations, but their existence and the courage of their members are truly worthy of note. The multiple deprivations of the million or so Palestinian citizens of Israel also require recognition.
