To watch the ERASING DAVID trailer please visit: www.erasingdavid.com ==Philosphy and Environment Lectures, Free Admission, UEA 7pm Lecture Theatre 2== PHILOSOPHY AND THE ENVIRONMENT Public Lecture Series 2010 Environmental concerns are at the centre of current attention. The Autumn 2010 series of Public Lectures will engage with fascinating questions that these concerns raise from a philosophical perspective. What is our own place as human beings in nature? What do we even mean when speaking about the natural environment? What is the relationship between environmental science and philosophy? Are there any links between the beauty of nature and its moral value? This year’s speakers are philosophers, environmentalists and environmentally engaged journalists. Mary Midgley, renowned moral philosopher, known for her work on science, ethics and animal rights will launch the series. Steven Poole, author and writer on environmental issues for The Guardian, will investigate how talk of such things as 'natural resources', 'the environment' and 'climate change' systematically obscures the real nature of nature. Kate Rawles, who teaches in the School of Outdoor Studies at Cumbria University, will tell us about her understanding of ‘outdoor philosophy’. Two debates complete the series: UEA philosophers Angela Breitenbach and Tom Greaves will discuss whether the experience of natural beauty can inform our moral concern for the environment, while Mike Hulme, Professor of Climate Change (UEA), will engage with UEA philosopher Rupert Read in a debate about the relationship between philosophy and environmental science. All are welcome, philosophers and non-philosophers alike, to these topical and exciting events. ===11th November, Stephen Poole, Nature and Unspeak=== ===25 November 2010 MIKE HULME & RUPERT READ, 7pm, 2, November Environmental Science vs. Philosophy?:A Debate=== ==[[Image:NorwichStopTheWarCoalition.jpg|80px]]Public Meeting: Afghanistan - Time To Go - Friday 12th November, Chantry Hall, time 7pm (tbc)== Speakers: *Mohammad N Asif of the Scottish Afghan Society *Jane Shallice, National officer of Stop the War Coalition Organised by Norwich Stop the War Coalition: http://www.norwichstopwar.org.uk, info@norwichstopwar.org.uk == Remembrance Sunday, 14th Nov == Does anyone organize an alternative remembrance event at the peace pillar in Chapelfield Gardens? ==Art of Faith and Interfaith Events== ===16th and 25th November and 2nd December 7.30pm. How much do we care about the suffering of the Palestinians in Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza? Should we ignore what is happening there, to “pass by on the other side”, as in the parable of the Good Samaritan? We used to know Palestine as the Holy land, where Jesus Christ ministered and died for us. It is also a country for which we were responsible under Mandate from the League of Nations until 1948.
