The "Art of Norwich" welcomes artists of all styles regardless of their expertise, and with the diverse and eclectic works of over 30 artists to check out, there is bound to be something to satisfy every visitor’s taste. Many of the works on display will be available for sale at very reasonable prices, and there will also be a good range of original and unique handmade cards, crafts and other trinkets that would make a perfect gift for a special someone. The thirteenth day of this thirteenth "Art of Norwich" exhibition coincidentally falls on Friday 13th August...so they have decided to tempt fate by holding their private view on that evening. They will open their doors to the public between 7pm-9pm where they will offer a platform for other artists whose creations are not so suitable for hanging from the walls. These exhibitions are held at the exquisite gallery of St Margarets - the Church of Art which is becoming established among the thriving art scene of this fine city. There are exhibitions held throughout the year, with something new to see every week or two. The Art of Norwich is also pleased to announce the launch of two new websites where you can find information on current, past and forthcoming events.: www.Art-of-Norwich.co.uk for information on the "Art of Norwich" www.Church-of-Art.co.uk for information about events at St Margarets - The Church of Art. Irina BANDRABUR Volunteer coordinator Greenpeace Romania ==Zero Carbon Concert, From Chris Keene== Do something positive about climate change, and have fun doing it Even as the scientists are telling us action on climate change is becoming ever more urgent the politicians are dithering again – no climate treaty was produced at the last UN talks in Copenhagen, and every year we waste brings us closer to a tipping point beyond which climate change becomes unstoppable. So now is the time for everyone to act together for the sake of our children's future, by joining in the zero carbon world concert for a zero carbon world on 27/28 November, just before the next UN climate summit, to show the politicians that a zero carbon world is possible. We have no time to waste – preparations for the concerts will begin on October 10th as part of the Global Work Party called by the 350 <www.350.org> and 10:10 <www.1010global.org> organisations. So visit www.zerocarbonconcert.org today to get involved, where you can find publicity material to download and social networking groups to join to spread the word, and contribute to developing the website and the practical guidelines for putting on the concerts. And enlist everyone else too by forwarding on this email – the vested interests opposing action on climate change are immensely powerful but those of us who will suffer from inaction are far more numerous, and if we act now, and act together, we can defeat them. ==Government must guarantee that Councils can consider biofuel impacts on climate, people and environment== from mark.crutchley@googlemail.com Dear Friends, On 10th August, a Public Enquiry about Bristol City Council's decision to reject an application for a 50 MW palm oil power station will start, following an appeal by the company. The main ground for the Council's decision to reject the application was their concern about the wider impacts of the biofuels which the company intends to burn - largely palm oil from South-east Asia. However, the Planning Inspector has so far stated that the Council's main reasons for originally rejecting the application will not even be heard! Instead, it is claimed that wier impacts of biofuels are not planning matters - because of one sentence in an outdated technical annex to planning guidance. Weymouth & Portland Council previously cited that same document and sentence when approving another palm oil power station by W4B. The new Government has promised to devolve more planning powers to local governments and to strengthen local democracy; Bristol City Council's decision against W4B is a test case for this commitment. Please write to the Government today and ask them to confirm that it is not their intention to stop Councils from considering climate change and wider environmental and social impacts in such planning applications. To take part in the alert, please go to www.biofuelwatch.org.uk/w4bjul2010.php Please let your friends and family know about this email action. Many thanks.
